By rail
  • Take AMTRAK: (www.amtrak.com)to South Station (BOS), or Back Bay Station (BBY).  AMTRAK Downeaster service from Maine and New Hampshire arrives at North Station (BON).
  • MBTA Commuter Rail: (www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/)service is available for parts of Massachusetts and as far as Providence RI. Commuter rail routes are less expensive and serve the same stations in downtown Boston.

Reservations and Hotel Info:

The official hotel for the event is the Midtown Hotel.  It is a short walk away from campus (about 10 minutes), and adjacent to the Symphony station on the E branch of the Green Line.  A block of rooms has been set up for Friday November 6th and Saturday November 7th.  The base rate is $89, and parking is available for $18 per night.

Guests can call The Midtown Hotel directly at 617-262-1000, or 800-343-1177 speak to the Reservations Department and ask for a reservation into the block, by identifying the block name, or log onto the website at: www.midtownhotel.com and type in the block code EWBNEU

Fine print:
  • The Midtown does not have a restaurant and no continental breakfast is included, but there are plenty of places to grab something to eat on the way to Northeastern
  • Rates are subject to a 12.45% occupancy tax
  • Reservations must be made by the block cut-off date, 10/6/09.  After the cut-off  you can still make reservations, but you will not be included in the block and the price may change
  • Cancellations must be made by 3pm 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid a first night room and tax penalty
  • It is understood that all room, tax and incidentals is to be settled by the individual, and all reservations must be guaranteed by the individual via a credit card hold.

  • From Logan (2 equally good options):
    • Take Silver Line bus to South Station, change for Red Line to Park Street, change for Green Line (E TRAIN ONLY!) to Symphony Station
    • Take free Massport shuttle to Blue Line station and ride to Government Center, change for Green Line (E TRAIN ONLY!) to Symphony Station
  • From Back Bay Station (Amtrak):
    • Board the 39 Bus and ride to Symphony T (Massachusetts Avenue & Huntington Avenue)
  • From South Station (Amtrak or Bus):
    • Take Red Line to Park Street, change for Green Line (E TRAIN ONLY!) to Symphony Station
  • From North Station (Amtrak):
    • Take Green Line (E TRAIN ONLY) to Symphony Station

By Car -
  • From Logan Airport:
    • Follow signs for airport roadway or expressway, Route 93.  Go through the Sumner Tunnel (toll charge) and go up the ramp (93 North).  Follow the signs for Storrow Drive.  Follow Storrow Drive heading west to Copley Square Exit (on left).  Go through the set of lights onto Beacon Street.  Follow Beacon Street to the fourth intersection (Beacon and Exeter Streets).  Take a left onto Exeter Street.  Follow Exeter Street all the way to the end. (Exeter intersects with Huntington Avenue).  Take a right onto Huntington Avenue and go through two sets of lights.  You will see The MidTown on the other side of the street.  Stay to the right of the underpass and make a U-turn to the hotel.
  • From Storrow Drive:
    • Refer to above.  Begin at Storrow Drive.
  • From Mass Pike (Route 90 East):
    • Take Exit 22 off turnpike.  Exit 22 will split, bear left to Prudential Exit ( Route 9 West/Huntington Avenue).  At the end of the exit, you will be on Huntington Avenue Westbound and will go through two sets of lights.  You will see the MidTown Hotel on the other side of Huntington Avenue.  Stay to the right of the underpass and make a U-turn to the hotel.
  • From 93:
    • North bound:  Take exit 18. Turn left at third set of lights-merge to the far right, and turn right and the lights onto Massachusetts Avenue. Follow Mass Ave. thru several sets of lights, turn right onto Huntington Avenue at the eighth set of lights-hotel is on the right.
    • South bound: Take exit 18. Stay to the far right. Turn right and the lights onto Massachusetts Avenue.  Follow Mass Ave. thru several sets of lights, turn right onto Huntington Avenue at the eighth set of lights-hotel is on the right.


Directions to Northeastern (and on campus parking information for those interested)

By public transportation - MBTA (www.mbta.com) (AKA "The T") - $2.00
Northeastern is Located at the Northeastern Station on the E branch of the Green Line and Ruggles Station on the Orange Line.  The directions below will take to you to Ruggles Station.  See the directions to the Midtown Hotel above if you would like to go there.

  • From Logan (2 equally good options):
    • Take Silver Line bus to South Station, change for Red Line to Downtown Crossing, change for Orange Line to Ruggles Station
    • Take free Massport shuttle to Blue Line station and ride to State Street, change for Orange Line to Ruggles Station
  • From Back Bay Station (Amtrak):
    • Take the Orange Line to Ruggles Station
  • From South Station (Amtrak or Bus):
    • Take Red Line to Downtown Crossing, change for Orange Line to Ruggles Station
  • From North Station (Amtrak):

  • From the north (via Route I-93 or Route 1)
    • Take the Storrow Drive exit, and proceed to the Fenway exit. Follow signs for Boylston Street inbound, and bear right onto Westland Avenue. Turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue, proceed to the third traffic light, and turn right onto Columbus Avenue. The Renaissance Parking Garage is at 835 Columbus Avenue.
  • From the west (via Route I-90, Massachusetts Turnpike)
    • Take Exit 22 (Copley Square), and bear right. Proceed to the first traffic light, and turn right onto Dartmouth Street. Take the next right onto Columbus Avenue. The Renaissance Parking Garage is at 835 Columbus Avenue.
  • From the west (via Route 9)
    • Proceed east on Route 9; it will become Huntington Avenue. Turn right onto Ruggles Street. At the fourth traffic light, turn left onto Tremont Street. At the second set of lights, turn left onto Melnea Cass Boulevard, and then turn left onto Columbus Avenue. The Renaissance Parking Garage is at 835 Columbus Avenue.
  • From the south (via I-93, Route 3)
    • Take Exit 18 (Massachusetts Avenue/Roxbury/Frontage Road). Turn left at the third light, staying in one of the two left lanes. Proceed straight onto Melnea Cass Boulevard. Continue for approximately two miles and turn left onto Columbus Avenue. The Renaissance Parking Garage is at 835 Columbus Avenue.
  • From Logan Airport
    • Exiting Logan Airport, merge onto Route I-90 West/Mass Pike/Ted Williams Tunnel. Proceed about 1.5 miles, and then take Exit 24 toward Route I-93. Merge onto Route I-93 South via the exit on the left. Take Exit 18, Massachusetts Avenue, toward Andrew Square. Bear right onto the Massachusetts Avenue connector. Proceed straight on the connector, which becomes Melnea Cass Boulevard. Continue for approximately two miles and turn left onto Columbus Avenue. The Renaissance Parking Garage is at 835 Columbus Avenue.
