Intro to Off-Grid Solar PV System Design and Applcations - Luis Alegria (Evergreen Solar, Inc.)

Abstract:

This introductory workshop will have two parts. The first part will cover the basics of crystalline photovoltaic (PV) module construction and off-grid (Stand-alone) PV system components, and the second part will focus on design and main applications in the developing world.

Photovoltaic (PV) systems can provide basic energy needs in off-grid areas in the developing world.

  • Learn the fundamentals of solar PV system components.
  • Learn how to do an energy budget prior to a system design.
  • Learn how to size the components in a typical rural home system
  • Knowledge of electrical concepts of voltage, current and power is desirable.
