Abstract: Esther will be speaking about Social Entrepreneurship, generally and here at Northeastern, and how these initiatives are related to the work of EWB through lecture, video, case studies, and personal experience. Biography - Esther Chou (Social Enterprise Institute): Esther Chou currently works at the Social Enterprise Institute as the Assistant Director of Programs. She is Northeastern University alumni with a Bachelors of Arts in International Affairs & Economics and is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration. As an undergraduate, Esther interned for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Meheba Refugee Camp in rural Zambia by helping to resettle refugees from Rwanda, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan to third countries of asylum. She also worked for a refugee relief organization as the Project Manager for their microfinance services, helping to create income opportunities for rural farmers and small business entrepreneurs. She has spent three years working in the international development field in central and southern Africa. She has a strong research interest in utilizing agricultural development and business solutions to helping end extreme poverty. |
